John Ronald Reuel Tolkien is a linguist, writer, artist, and scholar. Tolkien, who is most known for writing The Lord of the Rings, spent the majority of his time as a professor at the University of Oxford. He was a famous expert in the subjects of Old and Middle English as well as Old Norse. His imagination, which was restricted to his free time, found expression in works of fantasy, children's stories, poetry, illustrations, and made-up alphabets and languages. Middle-earth is the setting of two of Tolkien's most well-known books, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It is an imagined planet with surroundings that are oddly familiar and is home to legendary and ancient peoples. Tolkien talks insightfully about basic human themes such as love and grief, courage and treachery, humility and pride, and giving through this secondary realm.
