3 Coat Trends You Need To Know
Shorter days, darker nights and plunging temperatures can only mean one thing: it is coats season. As the weather turns colder, bringing with it an excuse to wrap up warm, here’s how to style yourself this winter
The best consolation prize for the passing of summer is that we are being thoroughly spoilt for choice when it comes to outerwear. Macs, faux fur, masculine tailoring, military, puffa styles, oversized, checked or colored - whatever you choose, your winter coat is your style hero for the coming months.
Here are three looks to love this season.
The statement coat
There are loads of fabulous coats out there at really reasonable prices, but sometimes it's worth splashing out for that incredible statement piece that will always be worthy of comment. A tan greatcoat, with its oversized power dressing cut, can be thrown over several layers. Or, a pink grosgrain detailed coat with oversized eyelets add interest and a depth of color. Wear over a cool, quilted gilet and team with geeky shoes for quirky chic.
Beautifully cut and cinched with a wide belt, a, heavy wool, military coat is a must. For effortless cool, team with an on-trend roll neck, loose slouchy trousers and trainers for a look that's super chic, but cozy and comfortable. Adding a color pop bag will lift the whole look. Great for busy days running around town.
Clashing colors and styles can often create the most striking looks. The retro tracksuit has been nudging its way into the working woman's wardrobe for some time now and looks great contrasted with smart tailoring. Similarly, pillar-box red and cerise aren't an obvious color match, but look great together, especially when tempered with a classic grey, wool overcoat. These contrasts work equally well with ankle boots or dressed down with trainers.
